Gov’t Makes Step Backwards When Blocking Telegram

KIBLAT.NET – Jakarta, Expert assesses the Government’s move through the Ministry of Communications and Informatics to block Telegram website is a step backwards.

“[It is] failure to understand if [Telegram] is instantly blocked, this is a technological setback in the midst of advancement era. If indeed there are complaints about the content [they] can directly sent to Telegram, but in fact until now according to Telegram CEO [he] has not received an official request from Indonesia,” said Digital Communications Specialist Anthony Leong, Monday (7/17/2017) as reported by Netralnews.

He said with the blocking of telegram web it would cause a lot of losses amid the community if the telegram and social media applications are closed in terms of economic growth.

“How can we continue to grow in the economy if social media are closed later? For the closing of Telegram alone how many MSME lose, how many online merchants whose turnover has dropped significantly? This should be the government’s concern,” he said.

In addition, the threat of Ministry of Communications to close foreign social media who do not want to open an office in Indonesia is less relevant.

“Now that we’re in a digital age, [for] the social media company it is the platform they sell, just like Uber, does it has to provide a taxi? Airbnb also does not have to own the hotel for rental. It’s just a technical matter. Just coordinate with the PIC designated for the certain areas,” he said.

If you are from the youth that are suffering from fluctuating faith take a good look at what you do in your solitude, who your friends are and what your day amounts to. Where do your eyes wander?
